When selecting your GW1 team, we feel that team value needs to be considered and ultimately protected. On average, the majority of manager’s choose to play their 1st wildcard by GW6 and in order to optimise your wildcard’s potential, team value must be retained.

Now say OGS decides against the inclusion of Greenwood or saves him for the Europa League games. This is likely to see Greenwood’s ownership significantly decrease, which in turn will see his already budget price rapidly decline to an inconvenient 4.3m – 4.2m. This is a lesson learnt from experience!!

A prime example of this from last season was CHO, who had an impressive pre-season for Chelsea. This pre-season form teased FPL managers into a GW1 selection of the 4.5m budget midfielder. By GW6, with his game time non-existent, his price had fallen to 4.2m, now wasting away as non-playing ‘bench fodder’ and consequently draining the team value.

Should the opposite happen and Greenwood makes an instant FPL impact, similar to that of Rashford in 15/16, his price will remain around the 4.5m – 4.7m value within the early GW’s. This is a price that any manager can afford at this stage of the season and therefore, his immediate inclusion should be easy to accommodate.

To succeed in FPL, manager’s need to play smart, minimising unnecessary risks during the early GW’s whilst everyone is at a level playing field. To conclude, we suggest Greenwood is on every #FPL manager’s watchlist from GW1, but to steer away from the bandwagon for now
