As much as all football fans love Shane Long his scoring record is, as we all know,
extremely poor despite his excellent work rate. I feel he will be the third choice.
Charlie Austin is hated by the fans and doesn’t have the work rate Ralph is looking for and I can see him being offloaded quite quickly.
Danny Ings was there main man last year with 7 goals in 24 appearances and I feel will be used similarly again. A player we all want to see so well and wanted it to go well for at Liverpool. But as we all know he has had his share of injury problems and this hindered him again at times last year although he did bag some vital goals.
From the chat I hear around the club from working in Southampton with young footballers and strong links with the academy staff, Ralph Hasenhuttle was a big fan of playing 2 forwards working as a pair at RB Leipzig. This looks to me to be nailed on as Che Adams and Danny Ings and the reason he bought Che in.
As a manager when he arrived he changed everything at the club with a strict training regiment and the players working much harder than they did under Mark Hughes. The players bought into his philosophy and love him and that’s the reason they stayed up. The ones that didn’t are gone or on their way out. {Charlie Austin}
The team looked more dynamic at the end of last year with him bringing Valery through the academy and a lot of promise in the U18s and finally getting the best out of the ever promising Nathan Redmond. Redmond is so determined to do well but needs some confidence and some freedom. Many of you may remember Pep telling him this after a game in recent times. He is another player I’m keeping a close eye on and I feel if he gets going will certainly add to saints attacking returns. With the other new exciting winger Djenepo I really feel they will be the surprise package this year. I’m not talking a season like Wolves but definitely not in a relegation battle and in and around the Watford West Ham’s etc area I feel as there are some decent players at the club now and a manager that has a clear vision.
Now Che has played in two pre seasons and netted in both but be wary… One was an awful defensive error and the other a goalkeeping error. However this gives the lad confidence. He knows he is the new big signing. He knows where the net is {22 in 46 in the Championship last year}. And he is in a dynamic team that want to attack. Will Saints blow people away 2 or 3 nil and Che be top scorer in the league? No probably not. But they are trying to attack and score more goals and even when they lose this is only a good thing for FPL managers {as long as you haven’t picked saints defenders}.
His fixtures aren’t the best but aren’t awful but the key point for me is his ownership at 1.4%. I’ve been saying for a while on twitter you need at least one differential as every draft I see is the same. He is cheaper than the Bournemouth options and Jota Deulofeu Barnes etc if you need the extra cash and a nailed on striker. As much as we all want Mason Greenwood to be our no 2 we all know he may not play and is perfect for the bench.
In conclusion, don’t be afraid to take a punt. I’m not saying take lots. Just one. And if your not sure who yous should be and you don’t want to risk a newly promoted team… Che’s your man. He’s certainly mine.
