So what kind of strategy do I talk about? Well, it has to do with the use of chips and the type of player I look for. As I write this in July, the focus of this article will be on the early part of the season.

Firstly, let’s talk about the type of player I look for. The most important thing for me is that the players I have are already settled in their team and are real options for the first 11. This means that I overlook new transfers as they can have a hard time adapting to the new team, and by having them we waste a place in the team. There are also 2 other types of player that I am interested in: the FPL proven players and the players who may make their big break and be useful for getting points early on and may in the future be sold at a higher price than I bought them for.

The players that I have and consider to be proven in the game are Fabianski, Robertson, Van Dijk, Salah, Sigurdsson. I expect these players to bring a lot of points throughout the season, so I have a base to build the rest of the team on. I also have a few players who are relatively cheap but may prove to be a huge succes, while if they fail the cost of failure is not great. They are Zinchenko, Fraser and Digne. I know the last 2 had good seasons last year but it is difficult to say they are proven players for FPL just now.

And now a little bit about the use of chips. I like to divide the season in 3 roughly equal parts using the wildcard. Thus, every decision I make regarding my team now only concerns the first 13-14 gameweeks. Regarding all the others, I think it is better to use them in double gameweeks for obvious reasons, so I tend to use them towards the end of the season. This way it is also more fun as there are always leagues where the battle for 1st goes until the last gameweeks and the use of a chip can make all the difference.

That would be it regarding my strategy for the season as a whole, though I must admit that in preparation for each gameweek I also take into account what games are about to be played, not just the general stuff discussed above.
