Let’s start with the players that are there at the moment for Chelsea. The Chelsea players that are at Stamford Bridge still, haven’t dropped off the face of the earth. There are still a great number of Chelsea players that can provide options in terms of Fantasy Premier League.
Chelsea in the first six opening fixtures only play Manchester United and Liverpool in the first and sixth fixture, between those two, they face an easy run of Leicester City, Norwich City, Sheffield United and Wolves.
With that in mind, let’s start from the backline, the goalkeeper and defence. Kepa Arrizabalaga is still a great goalkeeper earning 142 points in FPL last season from 3,240 minutes played for Chelsea. He was one of Chelsea’s bright sparks during the season also in FPL, earning 685 bonus points for any FPL side that owned him.
If you are willing to spend 6.5 on the likes of Virgil van Dijk and Aymeric Laporte for Liverpool and Manchester City respectively, then why aren’t you willing to spend the same on Marcos Alonso and perhaps slightly less at 6.0 for Cesar Azpilicueta and David Luiz.
In FPL last season, Marcos Alonso secured 161 points in FPL last season from 2,759 minutes played for Chelsea. Alonso would earn 702 bonus points in FPL last season, perhaps we should’ve picked the Spaniard more last season. Both David Luiz and Cesar Azpilicueta had great seasons for 164 and 158 points respectively.
Both had great season’s for Chelsea, so why don’t you consider Chelsea at the start of the season. We dare you.
Moving onto the midfield now and we can safely bet that this is where most of the points will come for Chelsea next season, even though, they have lost Eden Hazard. This is especially since Lampard himself was a great goalscoring midfielder.
So, with that in mind, let’s see where the value could come from in the Chelsea midfield. You of course have Pedro, Willian and Jorginho, straight off I think we can discount Jorginho straightaway, because he could leave for Juventus or just not play under Frank Lampard.
Pedro and Willian are one year older of course, but they are still great players at Chelsea, it will be interesting to see what formation Lampard plays and if/how both players are incorporated into that side.
In Lampard’s first Chelsea price conference, he did mention he will start to bring through the youth players from next season. If we look at Derby County under Lampard last season, he brought in Mason Mount and Fikayo Tomori and at least Mount off the top of my head, had to good overall season for Derby County.
I believe that Lampard will play the likes of Mount and Tomori to feature for Chelsea next season, alongside Callum Hudson-Odoi and Ruben Loftus-Cheek. Also, we need to advise that you should employ the wait and see method with Matteo Kovacic and Christian Pulisic for Chelsea.
This is because, both are not Lampard’s signings. Matteo Kovacic didn’t play much under Maurizio Sarri last season, even though Sarri brought him in. Christian Pulisic is an Abramovich signing for Chelsea if you ask me. He is a young attacking midfielder similar to Hazard. Likes to get forward and score, except for his last season with Borussia Dortmund.
We will conclude this article on Chelsea by stating, wait and see. Wait and see how the Chelsea preseason goes, how the squad gels together. What formation(s) Frank Lampard tries out during preseason.
