Newcastle and Rafa Benitez parted ways this week and it is the belief that it is because of Mike Ashley wasn’t prepared to stump up the money to make Newcastle one of the best teams in the Premier League. Ok, he did stump up the cash to bring in Miguel Almiron in January last season from Atlanta United. We all see what Miguel Almiron did in half a season for Newcastle.
It could be different this term now that Rafa Benitez is now gone. it could be like Robin van Persie at Manchester United the year after Sir Alex Ferguson left, the down turn could happen. Let’s hope that does not happen.
Let’s take a look at how Newcastle United could be a good deal for Fantasy managers. This is following on from our Manchester United article recently. We will look at how Newcastle can aid Fantasy managers to make the difference between a great season and an ok season.
This is great considering, the Fantasy Premier League game launched recently and we are all starting to make moves for our teams.
Just taking a look over the Newcastle United player prices, it looks as though from the outset that they would be great squad players for our sides. With only Miguel Almiron and Ayoze Perez are over 6.0, there are many great priced players to upgrade elsewhere.
Let’s start at the back, the goalkeeper and Martin Dubravka coming in at 5.5. At this price, it would mean from an FPL point of view that Dubravka would be able to make a great partner for another 5.0 / 5.5 player like Jordan Pickford or Rui Patricio. Just, keep him in mid for that type of slot going forward.
The Newcastle defence offers a couple of options also, especially if we are to go off of the stats from last season. Matt Ritchie who is now classed as a defender and not midfielder, is a set piece taker for “The Geordies” so, if he is at least in your side, you will be doing good. Rated at 5.5 and scored 110 points last season, can Ritchie repeat that, this term.
If you are looking to not layout as much “cash” for Ritchie, then why not go for one of the next two players down in Jamaal Lascelles and Fabian Schar at 5.0 and 4.5 respectively. Both, came up with just under 100 points, 95 and 93 respectively once more. So, if you are looking for a 4th or 5th choice defender, to fill out your bench, then go for one of Lascelles or Schar.
I have already gone through the Newcastle United midfield, but I will state again, mainly if you are going to pick from the Newcastle United midfield, you should pick between Ayoze Perez or Miguel Almiron.
If I were you, when it comes to the Newcastle United forwards, I would stick well away from them Joselu or Muto. Well at least until they can show that under the new manager that they have some substance to them.
